In divination
Dark young man, faithful, a lover, an envoy, a postman. Beside a man, he will bear favourable testimony concerning him. A dangerous rival, if followed by the Page of Cups. Has the chief qualities of his suit. He may signify family intelligence.
Reversed: Anecdotes, announcements, evil news. Also indecision and the instability which accompanies it.
The library's note
The court cards begin here, the suit's vitality carried now by a person rather than a scene: a young man mid-proclamation, "unknown but faithful," his tidings called simply "strange." Waite gives him the suit's own qualities in miniature, present but not yet settled into a fixed role, message-bearing rather than commanding. Where the pip cards showed wands' life acting on land and sea, the Page shows it entering a household as news, the suit's first appearance in the deck's bridge between the Lesser Arcana and its human court.
